Britcon, a leading provider of civil engineering, building and steelwork solutions based in Scunthorpe, is proud to announce that it has achieved Carbon Neutral Certification through Planet Mark, a globally recognised sustainability accreditation body.
This milestone reflects Britcon’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable business practices. Between October 2021 and September 2022, the company achieved a 7.5% absolute carbon reduction and a 25.8% reduction per employee, as part of its structured carbon reduction plan.
These results were made possible through a series of targeted initiatives, including:
- Implementation of sustainable procurement policies
- “Switch It Off” energy-saving campaigns
- A renewed approach to fleet management
- Behavioural change programmes to reduce unnecessary waste

Britcon’s certification was achieved in line with the internationally recognised PAS 2060 specification, covering all three of its operational sites in Scunthorpe, Wakefield and the North East.

As part of its UK-level impact, Britcon also supports the Eden Project through Planet Mark an educational charity in Cornwall that fosters connections between people and the natural world.
Looking ahead, Britcon has launched its new sustainability strategy, Britcon Zero, which will guide the company’s journey toward net zero carbon emissions. This initiative is also being embraced by Britcon’s sister company, Specialist Surfacing Ltd, which has achieved carbon neutral status as part of the Hunt Group’s wider commitment to sustainability.
