Britcon has successfully completed the new Hattersley Trade Park, for Maple Grove Developments, part of the Eric Wright Group. The investment marks a significant milestone in the regeneration of Hattersley. The £13m scheme has transformed a long-vacant brownfield site off Stockport Road and Ashworth Lane into a high-quality, mixed-use destination, bringing new employment space, retail provision and community-focused amenities to the area.
The completed development provides over 57,000 sq ft of modern and sustainable mixed-use space, including eight modern trade counter units ranging from 3,000 to 6,000 sq ft, alongside a new Aldi food store and Costa Coffee café and drive-through. These key occupiers will play a central role in supporting the local community, providing convenient access to everyday goods and services while increasing footfall and interest in the wider development. The site also includes 179 customer parking spaces and an ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging hub delivered in partnership with Be.EV, ensuring the development is accessible and fit for the future.
Delivered through a collaborative approach, the project has brought together a number of key stakeholders including Maple Grove Developments, Onward Homes, Tameside Council, The Harris Partnership, Abacus Cost Management, ICIS Design and Knight Frank. This partnership has been instrumental in delivering a high-quality scheme that responds to both commercial demand and the needs of the local community.
Hattersley Trade Park represents a major investment in the area and is expected to create over 100 permanent jobs, helping to support economic growth and provide new employment opportunities for local people. By regenerating a previously underutilised site, the development contributes to the wider ambition of revitalising the Hattersley District Centre and strengthening its long-term economic resilience.
Sustainability has been embedded throughout the design and construction of the scheme. The development is on track to achieve an EPC A rating across all units, alongside a BREEAM Very Good certification for the Aldi and Costa elements of the scheme and BREEAM Excellent for the mixed use space. These sustainability credentials demonstrate the project’s commitment to energy efficiency, environmental performance, and reducing operational carbon emissions, creating high quality, future ready commercial accommodation. PV panels have been incorporated across the development to improve energy efficiency and reduce operational carbon emissions, while ultra-rapid EV charging facilities encourage the adoption of low-emission transport.
In addition to its environmental credentials, the scheme has been designed to deliver a positive legacy for the community. A comprehensive landscaping strategy enhances biodiversity across the site, creating a more attractive and accessible environment for occupiers and visitors. The project has also supported local supply chains and employment throughout delivery, ensuring that investment is retained within the region and that social value is realised both during construction and beyond.
