Britcon was appointed by Coca Cola Europacific Partners to deliver significant civil engineering works as part of the ASRS II development at the client’s Wakefield manufacturing and distribution facility. The site is recognised as the largest soft drinks factory in Europe and operates around the clock, with extensive manufacturing, storage and distribution activity taking place across the facility. The project formed part of the client’s investment in automated warehouse infrastructure, requiring a carefully planned programme of works within a complex live operating environment.
Scope of Works
The contract included the delivery of major civil engineering works to support the second automated warehouse at the Wakefield site. Britcon’s scope included the demolition of existing distribution and office facilities, the construction of a 6,500m² high tolerance concrete slab, roads, drainage, paving, car parking and new steel structures. The team also developed a detailed phasing and logistics plan to support safe delivery on a busy operational site, helping to minimise disruption to existing activity, site security requirements and daily operations.
Challenges
The project required safe and efficient delivery within one of Europe’s largest soft drinks manufacturing environments, where operational continuity was critical. Key challenges included coordinating specialist subcontractors, working alongside an international multi disciplinary team, meeting highly regulated output tolerances and achieving business critical programme requirements. The works also required careful planning around site logistics, people movement, vehicle access and stakeholder coordination to reduce disruption across a live manufacturing and distribution facility.
Outcomes
Britcon successfully delivered a complex package of civils and infrastructure works that supported the progression of Coca Cola Europacific Partners’ ASRS II investment in Wakefield. Through early engagement, collaborative planning and detailed logistics management, the project team maintained focus on safety, quality, programme certainty and stakeholder coordination. The works helped support the client’s wider operational ambitions by enabling the development of additional automated warehouse capacity within an active manufacturing site, while also demonstrating Britcon’s experience in delivering technically demanding infrastructure works for major industrial clients.
