Scope of Works
Britcon and Britcon Steel have maintained a collaborative working relationship with Drax Power Station for more than 15 years, delivering a diverse range of civil engineering, construction and structural steelwork projects across one of the UK’s largest power generation facilities.
A key project involved the design, fabrication and construction of a strategic turbine component storage facility to house critical backup components required in the event of a plant shutdown. Britcon Steel designed, manufactured and installed the structural steelwork from its Scunthorpe fabrication facility.

Challenges
Working within a live operational power generation facility required careful planning, coordination and programme management to ensure works could be completed safely whilst maintaining the ongoing operation of the power station.
Projects were often delivered within restricted working areas and operationally sensitive environments, requiring close collaboration with Drax stakeholders, strict adherence to site-specific safety requirements and flexible delivery programmes. The varied nature of the projects also demanded a multi-disciplinary approach, drawing upon Britcon’s civil engineering, building and structural steel capabilities to provide integrated solutions across the site.
Outcomes
Over a period spanning more than 15 years, Britcon and Britcon Steel have successfully delivered numerous projects supporting the ongoing maintenance, resilience and development of Drax Power Station.
The strategic turbine component storage facility provides secure accommodation for critical operational equipment, helping to minimise downtime and support business continuity.
