Britcon has delivered a wide range of highways and infrastructure projects for East Riding of Yorkshire Council through the YORcivil framework. Working across both urban and rural locations, these schemes have supported the improvement of the region’s transport network through the construction of new roads, roundabouts, drainage systems, carriageway enhancements and associated infrastructure. The projects have been delivered using collaborative design and build approaches, ensuring minimal disruption while providing long term benefits for road users, local communities and businesses.

Scope of Works
The programme of works encompassed a variety of civil engineering and highways projects with individual contract values of up to £5 million. Britcon’s involvement included the design and construction of new roads, roundabouts and underpasses, together with major carriageway reconstruction and resurfacing works. The scope also incorporated highway drainage installations, reinforced concrete structures and foundations, utility diversions, earthworks, traffic management systems and associated landscaping.
Through early contractor involvement, Britcon worked closely with East Riding of Yorkshire Council and key stakeholders to develop practical and cost effective solutions that met operational, environmental and programme requirements.
Challenges
Delivering highways infrastructure within live operational environments presented a number of challenges. Many schemes required complex traffic management arrangements to maintain safe access for road users while construction activities progressed. Existing underground services had to be identified, protected and accommodated within the project designs, often requiring close coordination with utility providers.
The varied nature of the projects also demanded careful planning and phasing to minimise disruption to local communities and businesses. Construction activities were frequently undertaken within constrained sites and alongside busy transport routes, requiring robust safety controls and effective stakeholder communication. In addition, the projects placed a strong focus on reducing carbon impacts through efficient design, material selection and construction methodologies.
Outcomes
The completed projects have enhanced connectivity, improved traffic flow and increased road safety across the East Riding region. New and upgraded highways infrastructure has provided reliable transport links for residents, businesses and visitors while supporting future economic growth and development.
Through collaborative working and early contractor engagement, Britcon successfully delivered high quality infrastructure solutions that met the client’s objectives for performance, sustainability and value. The schemes demonstrate Britcon’s expertise in managing complex civil engineering projects, coordinating multiple stakeholders and delivering infrastructure improvements within challenging live environments. The programme has strengthened the region’s transport network and provided long term benefits for communities throughout East Riding of Yorkshire.
