The Advanced Manufacturing Technical Centre in Rotherham was delivered for Homes England as part of the Advanced Manufacturing Park, a nationally significant hub for innovation and engineering excellence. Constructed on a remediated former colliery site, the project created a high quality manufacturing and commercial facility designed to support businesses operating in advanced engineering and precision manufacturing sectors. The development provides modern workspace, training facilities and office accommodation within a sustainable, future focused environment.

Scope of Works
Britcon was appointed under a design and build contract to deliver the 32,291 sq ft Advanced Manufacturing Technical Centre. The scheme comprised the construction of a steel framed building incorporating a five storey workshop, mezzanine floors and three storeys of office accommodation. External works included civils infrastructure, new incoming services and Section 278 highway works. The facility was designed to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating and incorporated a range of renewable technologies, including rooftop photovoltaic panels and a ground source heating system, to support long term sustainability objectives.
Challenges
A key challenge was developing the facility on a remediated brownfield site while working within the constraints of an active and expanding business park. Careful planning and coordination were required to manage ground conditions, integrate new infrastructure and minimise disruption to neighbouring occupiers. The project also demanded the delivery of highly specified spaces capable of supporting advanced manufacturing operations while meeting stringent sustainability targets and programme requirements.
Outcomes
The completed facility provides flexible, high quality accommodation for advanced manufacturing and technology based businesses across sectors including aerospace, defence, construction and automotive. Designed to support collaboration, innovation and skills development, the centre has attracted world leading organisations and strengthened the Advanced Manufacturing Park’s reputation as a centre of excellence. The project was successfully delivered on programme and achieved its BREEAM Very Good certification, providing a sustainable and future ready environment that supports economic growth and investment within the region.
