Britcon was appointed by Chestnut Homes to deliver the structural steelwork package for the new Jakemans Community Stadium, the purpose built home of Boston United Football Club in Lincolnshire. Developed as part of the wider Quadrant mixed use regeneration scheme, the project has created a modern community focused stadium that meets Football League standards while providing facilities that extend far beyond matchday use. The development represents a significant investment in both sporting infrastructure and the local community, creating a versatile venue capable of supporting a wide range of activities throughout the year.
Scope of Works
Britcon was responsible for the design, fabrication and installation of approximately 350 tonnes of structural steelwork forming the primary framework of the new stadium. The works included the construction of the main spectator stands, roof structures, supporting steel frame elements and associated structural components required to accommodate a 5,000 capacity venue. Precast terrace and stair units were integrated within the design, providing robust and efficient spectator facilities. The completed development incorporates community spaces, educational and training facilities, a sports hall, an all weather 3G pitch and conference accommodation, ensuring the stadium serves as a valuable asset for the wider Boston community.
Challenges
Delivering a large scale sports venue within a live town centre development required careful planning, coordination and programme management. The project team was tasked with achieving Football League compliance standards while maintaining the demanding construction programme required to prepare the stadium for the football season. The integration of complex roof structures, tiered spectator seating and precast elements demanded precise engineering and installation sequencing. Throughout the project, ensuring the safety of local residents, stakeholders and operatives remained a priority, with construction activities managed to minimise disruption to surrounding developments and community activities.
Outcomes
The successful completion of Jakemans Community Stadium has provided Boston United with a modern, fit for purpose home capable of supporting the club’s long term ambitions. Delivered within a 26 week programme, the stadium offers enhanced spectator facilities, increased capacity and a range of flexible community spaces that maximise year round use.
