Britcon was appointed to deliver the transformation of the Student Services Hub at Kirklees College in Huddersfield, creating a modern, inclusive and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors. Negotiated through a collaborative framework, the fast track scheme reimagined the college atrium and delivered a high quality fit out within a live educational setting.
Scope of Works
The project involved the redevelopment of the Student Services Hub, delivered within a 13 week programme. Works included the creation of modern corporate spaces, two welcoming reception areas, careers guidance pods, multi faith rooms and safeguarding offices.
The scope also included minor demolition, bespoke joinery, glazed screens, suspended ceilings, new flooring and upgraded mechanical and electrical services. The completed space provides a more functional and accessible student facing environment, designed to support the needs of a busy college campus.
Challenges
The project was delivered within a live college environment, requiring careful planning and coordination to maintain safety, safeguarding and access throughout the works. With around 10,000 students on campus, the team had to work considerately while managing emergency route planning and strict safeguarding requirements.
The fast programme also required close coordination of specialist subcontractors to ensure the high quality fit out was delivered to the required standard within the 13 week timescale.
Challenges
The completed Student Services Hub has transformed the atrium into a vibrant and inclusive space, providing improved reception areas, dedicated careers guidance facilities, multi faith rooms, safeguarding offices and modern corporate spaces.
