Britcon is delivering a state of the art Teaching & Training Facility in Thornaby for Education Training Collective (ETC) and the North East Training Alliance (NETA). The project is creating a modern specialist engineering and training centre that will support the development of future skills across the region. Located adjacent to Stockton Riverside College, the new facility forms a key part of a wider campus regeneration programme and will provide enhanced learning environments, specialist workshops and improved social spaces for students and staff.
Scope of Works
Britcon is undertaking the design and construction of the new £10.9 million training facility as part of a 56 week programme. The development includes the remodelling and integration of existing facilities alongside the construction of a new two storey specialist engineering centre, creating approximately 4,600m² of high quality educational accommodation.
Works include:
- Design and build delivery
- Demolition and alteration works to existing buildings

Challenges
Delivering the project within a live education environment requires careful planning and coordination to minimise disruption to students, staff and day to day campus operations. Maintaining safe access routes and ensuring all works are carried out in line with strict safeguarding requirements remains a key priority throughout delivery.
The project also involves integrating new construction with existing campus facilities while working within a constrained site surrounded by operational educational buildings. Managing programme requirements, stakeholder engagement and logistical challenges is essential to maintaining progress and ensuring the facility meets the aspirations of ETC, NETA and Stockton on Tees Borough Council.
Outcomes
As construction progresses, the development is transforming the campus and creating a contemporary learning environment designed to inspire and support future generations of learners. Upon completion, the facility will provide specialist engineering workshops, modern teaching spaces and improved amenities that enhance the overall student experience.
