The Britcon team swapped hard hats for football boots as colleagues took part in the EDGE Charity 5 A Side Football Tournament at Goals Sheffield, joining businesses from across the region for a day of football, fundraising and friendly competition.
Held as part of EDGE’s 10th anniversary celebrations, the tournament brought together organisations from across Yorkshire and beyond, all united by a shared commitment to supporting worthwhile causes. Despite the unpredictable Sheffield weather, the event created a fantastic atmosphere both on and off the pitch, providing an opportunity to strengthen industry relationships while raising money for charity.
Representing Team Britcon was a carefully selected squad featuring a mixture of athletes, Sunday League veterans and a few enthusiastic volunteers keen to start the Bank Holiday weekend a little earlier than usual. Regardless of playing experience, every member of the team embraced the occasion and played their part throughout a thoroughly enjoyable day.
Whilst football provided the entertainment, the real winners were the charities supported by the event. The tournament helped raise more than £2,500 for a number of deserving causes, including Fuse Alternative Provision in Sheffield and CATCH Leeds. The success of the event highlights the positive impact that can be achieved when businesses come together to support their local communities.
Congratulations must also go to the tournament winners Kier, as for Team Britcon, accounts of our progress through the competition vary depending on who you ask, although we are collectively choosing to remember an impressive run to the semi-finals.
A huge thank you goes to EDGE for the invitation and for organising another outstanding event. We’d also like to thank our players, management team and everyone working behind the scenes who helped make the day such a success!
We’re already looking forward to next year’s tournament and, with a little luck, a few tactical improvements and perhaps the phone numbers of Eddie Howe, Pep Guardiola or Neil Warnock, we might even go one step further.
