Kick Off! Work Begins on the £7 Million Transformation of the Victoria Pleasure Ground in Goole
We have been awarded a new contract to transform the Victoria Pleasure Ground in Goole, bringing modern, high-quality sports and leisure facilities to the heart of the community. This significant redevelopment, led by Goole Town Council and with financial support from Goole Town Deal and the Football Foundation marks an exciting step forward in the town’s regeneration.
The Goole Town Deal Board chose to prioritise the redevelopment of the Victoria Pleasure Ground as part of its strategic proposals to reinvigorate the town centre by allocating it a share of the £25 million in Town Deal funding awarded to Goole by the Government. The refurbishment of the Victoria Pleasure Ground is one of eight strategic projects that make up the Goole Town Deal regeneration programme. Our team has begun the demolition of the old stand and associated buildings, clearing the way for a brand-new, two-storey pavilion that will set a new standard for local sports infrastructure. The new facility has been designed with both athletes and spectators in mind, incorporating modern changing rooms, dedicated physiotherapy and first aid spaces, and spectator viewing areas. It will also feature a 160-seat conference and hospitality suite, creating a versatile space for sporting, corporate, and social events. The first-floor hospitality suite is a flexible space that can be reconfigured to accommodate healthy lifestyle activities and groups, including Pilates, yoga, and Slimming World. To accommodate more visitors, on-site parking will be expanded, ensuring better accessibility for all.
Later this year, once the playing season has ended, a full-size 3G artificial pitch and the new athletics facilities will be installed, further enhancing Goole’s sporting infrastructure. These new additions will provide even more opportunities for grassroots sports and community engagement, creating a high-quality space for athletes of all levels to train and compete.
Britcon Managing Director, Nick Shepherd, shared his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its significance for the town:
"We are excited to be working with all stakeholders to deliver this exciting local project. We will use best practice from previous sustainable leisure projects to minimise our impact and use regional suppliers wherever possible to maximise social value outcomes and local spend."
The transformation of Victoria Pleasure Ground is more than just a construction project; it’s an investment in the future of local sport. With backing from Goole Town Deal and an additional £2 million contribution from the Football Foundation, this redevelopment will provide a lasting legacy for grassroots teams, local organisations, and the wider community. By creating high-quality, accessible facilities, the project aims to boost participation in sport while also contributing to the economic growth of the area.
We are looking forward to collaborating with the project team, including lead consultant Steve Wells Associates, a specialist in this field and over the coming months, we’ll be sharing updates as the project progresses, and we can’t wait to deliver a facility that Goole can be proud of.
