Works Scope
Britcon completed this 14,530m2 scheme, which comprised of a major extension to form a new, Key Stage 1 classroom block; extensions and alterations to the existing school classrooms to create Key Stage 2 classroom blocks; and minor alterations to the remainder of the school including extension and alterations to the boiler house.
The four-phase project included demolition of the existing toilets and cloakrooms and internal alterations to the entrance, reception classes and kitchen. Electrical works included significant data, power, fire alarm, security and public address systems.
Barnsley Council has utilised many 'green initiatives' within the development of the project including a Biomass Boiler system, under-floor heating, natural ventilation and heat recovery systems, 20,000 litres of rainwater-harvesting tanks and a 'state of the art' Photovoltaic system comprising mono-crystalline modules secured to the South-facing standing seam roof.
Key Project Challenges
- Live site.
How we successfully delivered the project
Throughout the project works, the school remained a live site. Interface and co-ordination liaison meetings were held with the both the client and school. Presentations were made to the teaching staff and parents, together with detailed illustrations of phasing and logistics - to demonstrate how students, staff and parents would remain safe during the works. Weekly liaison meetings were held to discuss deliveries and phasing and connection of new build extension and services.
